Long Victorian garden

We designed and built this 120ft-long family garden in Ashby. The brief was to combine family space, separate space for the dog, and lots of planting.

The garden features a number of triangular planting areas and raised beds

When we were invited by our clients to assess the garden, it was well used but a bit tired around the edges. The clients had seen the town house garden we had done in Ashby the year before, and hoped we could weave some magic on their garden.

The clients wanted a bigger patio area, some lawn for the children to play on and plenty of planting areas, as the clients had collected a large number of Roses and Hydrangeas. Another requirement was a dog run for the family dog. Given the long, thin nature of the plot we decided to break the garden into three zones – the patio, which was extended and relaid in Indian sandstone; the lawn and planting areas, and the fenced off dog run. Additional planting, in the form of Salvia, Echinacea, Iris, Heuchera, Penstemons and Sedum was accommodated in new triangular raised beds on the patio, which were designed to mirror the beds adjacent to the lawn.

The clients commented on their completed garden:

“…I’ve been meaning to let you know just how much we’ve been enjoying the garden. It really has met our expectations!!”
