Farmhouse garden

Back in the spring of 2011 we were commissioned to design this farmhouse garden for the client to build themselves. One year on and the construction and planting are completed.

The brief was to completely update the existing large plot, and to provide a focal seating and entertaining area surrounded by planting. The design needed to be sympathetic to the existing mature shrubs and trees on site.

Here are a couple of shots of the site as it looked before:

The clients had removed a pond…

A path led from the back of the house to a greenhouse, with a sparsely planted border

The finished design incorporated the path into a walkway around the garden, surrounding a three-tier paved patio with large pergola above. New herbaceous flower planting was incorporated around the patio area and alongside the path.

We returned to our clients to take these pictures in June 2012. Although when they originally briefed us they said they didn’t want to be spending too much time tending the completed garden, their view had now changed: “We spend all our spare time outside, just because we love it, and we wish we’d done it 10 years ago”.
