Nottingham Garden Design – Transforming a New Build Garden

Our clients, a family residing in an exclusive newly built property in Wollaton, Nottingham, faced a pressing issue: severe overlooking problems that compromised their privacy. They sought a garden that could evolve over time while providing space for family activities.

In response to these challenges, our Nottingham garden design scheme resulted in a family-oriented garden that not only addressed privacy concerns but also created a welcoming outdoor space for gatherings and play. Here’s what we did:

Pleached Trees for Privacy

To combat the overlooking issue, we strategically planted pleached trees that, over time, would provide a natural screen, shielding the garden from prying eyes.

Family-Centric Design

Understanding the family’s needs, we incorporated a generous lawn area, perfect for children’s play, and a swing set. Additionally, a robust timber pergola was integrated to enhance screening from the house.

Entertaining Space

A BBQ area behind the garage was a must for our clients. We designed a spacious dining and sitting area where they could entertain family and friends comfortably.

Managing Level Changes

To address the uneven terrain, we implemented small steps and a retaining sleeper wall on one side, cleverly concealed behind a timber-slatted fence.

Paving and Materials

For a touch of elegance, we selected premium paving and clay pavers from London Stone, creating an inviting atmosphere. A bespoke-built timber slatted screen added a unique charm to the design.

Simple Planting Scheme

At the client’s request, we kept the planting scheme straightforward and elegant. Hydrangea Petiolaris climbs gracefully up the garage wall, while Hydrangea Limelight and a selection of Astrantia, Geranium Rozanne, ferns (Polystichum Herrenhausen), and Hakonechloa were artfully incorporated into the borders. In the garden’s heart, multi-stem Amelanchier lamarkii provides not only additional screening but also delightful spring blossoms and stunning autumn leaf colours.

Client’s Feedback

Our clients fell in love with our design concept from the start and chose not to make any changes to our initial ideas. They expressed trust in our ability to craft a garden that perfectly suited their needs. The transformation of their outdoor space left them thrilled, and they eagerly anticipate the natural screening’s continuous improvement over time. In fact they liked it so much they referred us to their relatives!
