Walled and gated driveway

We like a challenge here at Lush Garden Design, so when we were called in my one of our trusted local landscapers to design a walled and gated driveway and front garden in Mickleover, Derbyshire, we jumped at the chance. The site had a drainage ditch running across the front of the property, and the existing drive and garden was tired and also prone to flooding.

On a typically rainy day in in October 2012 the site looked like this:

The drainage ditch and scruffy hedge at the front did not do much for the house’s kerb appeal:

Our proposed scheme addressed the flooding issue with a combination of land drains and gravel parking areas. As well as low-maintenance shrub planting and a combination of Bradstone block paving and gravel, our scheme included designing the front boundary wall and accompanying hardwood fences. We replaced the traditional 5-bar gate with an automatic hardwood one.

The build took quite some time, as the front wall had to go through planning and the search for a hardwood fence and gate manufacturer took a while, but on another rainy day in March 2015, here is the finished garden:

The driveway, drainage and brick wall construction was by Robins Nest Landscaping in Derby. The wooden fences and gate were built by Tatlow Joinery, and the gate mechanism was by Logic Security, both of Derby.

And here, using my unsung video camera skills, is the automatic gate in action:
