Work has commenced on creating a new luxury spa at Breedon Priory Health Club in Melbourne.

Ashby-based Lush Garden Design has designed the landscaping and external areas. They are working alongside Armsons Chartered Surveyors and YMD Boon Architects, who lead a multi-disciplinary team that includes Derby-based structural engineers Jackson Purdue Lever and Birmingham-based mechanical and electrical engineers HBA.

This exciting project received planning permission in March 2018. The old golf clubhouse and tied dwelling make way for the new boutique spa facility.

The high-end spa will be located on the existing footprint of the golf club building, on the edge of the village of Wilson – between Melbourne and Breedon on the Hill.

A whole host of exclusive facilities will be on offer, including treatment rooms, relaxation areas, pools, saunas, and steam rooms, along with a restaurant and a shop.

This will be followed later by the replacement of another tied dwelling and the construction of six holiday lodges, which will be constructed from wood and located on the fairway to the former 18th green.

Work is currently underway and is set to be completed by Summer 2021.

Breedon Priory Health Club was purchased in 2013 by Sigourney Gates and her family. Since then the Club has established itself as a hugely successful health and fitness facility, with more than 1,000 members.

The Club has undergone several improvements over the past couple of years. It now offers state-of-the-art fitness facilities, along with a 14-metre swimming pool and outdoor exercise rig.

Commenting on the scheme, Sigourney Gates said:

“The addition of a new luxury spa to our already successful health and fitness club was always part of our long-term plans and will give our customers an exclusive facility, which will be unrivalled anywhere in the region.

“Our new spa will benefit both local businesses and communities through job creation and the increase in visitors to the local area.

“We look forward to working with Armsons, YMD Boon Architects and the rest of the project team on the scheme and can’t wait to see our old golf clubhouse site transformed into something fantastic.”

Anna Barker, managing director of Lush Garden Design, added:

“This new spa development will be an excellent attraction for the East Midlands. We’re extremely proud to be part of it.

“Our designs for the outdoor areas will allow guests to relax in a very tranquil setting. The scheme includes communal seating areas and space for sunbathing and relaxing in the open countryside. The twin infinity pools will overlook the planting and communal space, and we can’t wait to visit once it’s open!”
